Landgoederen zone

The Landgoederenzone Zuid-Holland is culturally and scenically unique in the Netherlands and reminds us of the influential position Holland has held economically and administratively for centuries. Much of it is still intact and you can enjoy it, for instance with walks and activities. Yet these beautiful country houses and monumental greenery would have disappeared entirely.

Zuid-Holland still has some two hundred country estates and country houses. All of them are beautiful places that offer interesting windows on Dutch history. They are important elements of our cultural heritage and oases of space and nature.

Estates and country estates are mainly found on natural elevations in the landscape. Most of them - some eighty - are located in South Holland on the old beach ridges between The Hague and Hillegom.
