2 walks / treasure hunts around “Prince Frederik”

HISTORY AROUND THE CORNER

There are 2 new quests on the Prince Frederik Park Route. These quests lead through the paths of Prince Frederik's estates and teach you in an exciting way about his life in Wassenaar and Voorschoten.

The municipalities of Voorschoten and Wassenaar have breathed new life into the Prins Frederik Parkenroute, including films about his life on the estates, quests and the creation of special markings on the route. In the films we get to know Frederik and his family, we learn about the carriages in which he was transported and we get an explanation about the special parks that he had built. As one student says: “so much history and it's all just around the corner from me”. A new children's playground has been placed next to De Paauw, which represents a carriage belonging to the prince.

THE PARKS ROUTE

The Prince Frederik Park Route is the historical connection between the estates of Prince Frederik of the Netherlands, who had them built specifically for travel by carriage. In the 19th century, Prince Frederik bought De Paauw country estate and then eight surrounding country estates in both municipalities. It was his wish to create a route full of surprises and to merge his estates into a whole.
