Sorry We Missed You is the penultimate film by two-time Golden Palm winner Ken Loach. The film tells an honest and moving story, about a family trying to cope in contemporary England. Ricky and Abby live in Newcastle with their children, their 15-year-old son Seb and 11-year-old daughter Liza Jane. Since the economic crisis, the family has been struggling to make ends meet. Abby works long hours in home care, Ricky has lost his job in construction and earns extra with various odd jobs. In an attempt to improve their financial situation and regain stability in the family, Ricky decides to sign a franchise deal with a large mail order company. As his own boss, he starts working as a package deliverer. But soon the workload is sky-high and he gets caught up in rules and protocols. What should have been a chance for a better future hangs like a millstone around the family's neck.
