Kasper Schonewille & Nicolas van Poucke, piano
Concert on two Erard grand pianos. Sébastien Erard designed a grand piano where the strings run parallel and not crosswise as in our modern grand pianos. Programme including Mozart, Liszt and Chopin.
Sébastien Erard (1752-1831) designed a grand piano where the strings run parallel and not crosswise like our modern grand pianos. This gives an Erard grand piano a brighter timbre. Back then, all the greats of music played on an Erard grand piano: Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, etc. Kasper Schonewille and Nicolas van Poucke play on an Erard 248 from 1865 (London) and an Erard 248 from 1878 (Paris). All pieces in the programme were written for two pianos.
